Tona Brown is a African American transgender woman from Alexandria, Virginia. At the time of this interview, Brown was working as a musician, a teacher, and a world-class performer. In this oral history, she speaks about her childhood spent in Virginia, her voice, coming out as a transgender woman, and her family relationships. She also touches upon working in classical music.
