Soldiers, one in drag, performing in the concert party "The Goods". Photographic postcard, 1918.
"The Goods"
The central drag performer is dancing on points, watched by three animated characters at the sides of the set. A performer in a stage box is dressed as the popular comic actor George Robey. The company "The Goods" was attached to the 58th (London) Division in France. The concert party for this Division was particularly well organized and supplied, with semi-professional performers such as the famous Alouette (see Wellcome Library no. 2060626i)
Part of James Gardiner Collection: photographs of military, naval, and prisoner-of-war camp drag.
