George Robey in character. Photographic postcard by Foulsham & Banfield, ca. 1905-1910.
Mr. George Robey. 125 N.
Part of James Gardiner Collection: photograph album labelled ‘Drag’.
Robey mops his face with the fabric of his dress (?). Perhaps Britain's best known comedy actor, George Robey (1869-1954) had a career that spanned more than six decades, and with his trade-mark heavy eyebows was one of the most easily recognizable faces on the English stage. A very versatile comic actor, he played dame many times, and always brought the house down. He is seen here in an unidentified dame role, circa 1905-1910
